Generic Name: TAPENTADOL HYDROCHLORIDE
Tapentadol extended-release tablet is an opioid agonist, supplied in extended-release film-coated tablets for oral administration, containing 58.24, 116.48, 174.72, 232.96, and 291.20 mg of tapentadol hydrochloride in each tablet strength, corresponding to 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mg of tapentadol free-base, respectively.

- Opioid-Induced Hyperalgesia and Allodynia: Opioid-Induced Hyperalgesia (OIH) occurs when an opioid analgesic paradoxically causes an increase in pain, or an increase in sensitivity to pain.
- Avoid use of tapentadol extended-release tablets in patients with circulatory shock. Risks of Use in Patients with Increased Intracranial Pressure, Brain Tumors, Head Injury, or Impaired Consciousness : Monitor for sedation and respiratory depression.
- Avoid use of tapentadol extended-release tablets in patients with impaired consciousness or coma. 5.1 Addiction, Abuse, and Misuse Tapentadol extended-release tablets contain tapentadol, a Schedule II controlled substance.
- As an opioid, tapentadol extended-release tablets expose users to the risks of addiction, abuse, and misuse.
- Because extended-release products such as tapentadol extended-release tablets deliver the opioid over an extended period of time, there is a greater risk for overdose and death due to the larger amount of tapentadol present [see Drug Abuse and Dependence (9) ] .
